Haleakala Vortex – Photo and Comment by Nick Selway:
On Nov 12,2012 I photographed in the water waves at Makena Beach,Maui. Knowing this beach has some of the clearest water conditions in the Hawaiian Island I wanted to try to shoot while underwater pointing my camera towards the back of the crashing waves in very shallow water hoping to capture the vortex of the wave while being able to see the land through the wave as well. My persistence paid off and I captured this stunning one of a kind image. I named it ‘Haleakala Vortex” because you can see the Volcanic Haleakala Crater though the back of the wave.
