Rosaries and The Vampire Song
Took this picture, which is terribly out of focus, but sort of fits the song lyrics - because it reminded me of the old Buffy Sainte Marie song about the vampire - which was very eerie and sad and stayed with me all these years.  It is on “The Best of Buffy Sainte Marie” album from 1990.

Shall I tell you of the nightIt was long agoLate November and the snowJust about to fallAnd the moon was big and brightCold and sharp and clearAnd the air was bitingSoftly, swiftly down the roadNever made a soundSomeone came from far awaySomeone tall and oldAs I looked into his eyesNo reflections cameAnd I gave him beddingOh, my little rosaryHow I miss you soNever used you very wellNow, I never willI am farther from you nowThan the two ends of eternityNow, I do his bidding

Shall I tell you of the night
It was long ago
Late November and the snow
Just about to fall

And the moon was big and bright
Cold and sharp and clear
And the air was biting

Softly, swiftly down the road
Never made a sound
Someone came from far away
Someone tall and old

As I looked into his eyes
No reflections came
And I gave him bedding

Oh, my little rosary
How I miss you so
Never used you very well
Now, I never will

I am farther from you now
Than the two ends of eternity
Now, I do his bidding

I had an opportunity to meet and talk with this man the other day and he told me about his web presence.  I am not a great country western fan, but I sometimes do like songs that tell stories, paint a picture.  I haven’t had a chance to listen to them all, but this was a good one.  If you want to hear some yet undiscovered lyrics, have a listen.  Sam is headed for Nashville this next week.  He just left Buckeye, Arizona, was headed for Louiseville, Kentucky, then, on to Nashville, Tennessee.

I hope he finds his pot of gold at the end of a long rainbow.

Hoyt Axton - I Dream of Highways

It gets hard to find Hoyt Axton these days, but I have always enjoyed his story lyrics and he has a voice that can have a real edge or be the gentle giant crooner.
